Congratulations to both for being ranked their rookie seasons and good luck during your sophomore campaign!
2007 Angels Triathlon Results The results are in and Team Drip-Clip-Rip had an impressive showing during the season's first event. The severe rain and cold (44 degrees) did not seem to affect our teams performance (a testament to training and preparation). Trip Davis came in 3rd in his age group and 33rd overall besting 2 elite participants. His 5K time of 20:50 was best in his age group. Chris Winter did not beat his 2006 time by 20 minutes as he had hoped, but the stinging rain didn't help! Despite that, he posted a 6th place age group finish and 39th overall. He posted the 34th best bike time of the day. He also shaved off over 2 minutes from his triathlon 5K PR. For complete results, click here for the SetUp link. For race pictures, click here. (Trip bib# 84, Chris bib# 87) Thank you very much to our supportive families. Great work everyone!

| 7/27/08, Walnut Creek Congrats to Trip for his 6th place finish at the Charlotteville International Triathlon. For complete results click here. A belated congrats to Brian for his 8th place finish in the High Peaks Triathlon in Lake Placid. Both finished #1 in their age group! 7/16/08, OC to Sugar Hollow, 5:30AM Continuing with the Sequoia-less workouts, Trip rides from his home to the Sugar Hollow dam and back with Chris in tow most of the way. Chris rode around the hills of Waverly to escape traffic and get his milage up to 30! 7/14/08, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 Taking a cue from Trip, Chris saved some gas and biked to and from the pool workout. A good run after and you've just started your morning off with a sprint triathlon. 7/10/08, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM Cranked out 42 miles of close encounters with deer this am. I have a new appreciation for flat terrain biking. 2:15:51. Hard to stay aero that long. Big stretching after! 7/9/08, Mantown, 6:00AM Treadmill 5K substitute for the big ride I planned with my new front-mount water bottle and Bento box. Rain thwarted that. Will try again tomorrow. 7/8/08, Nantucket, 8:00 AM Trip is getting it done in New England. 7.25 miles in 56:00! Excellent and hard 7 miler on a steamy and breezy morning from Sankaty Head along Polpis Road (without the jogger!). Don't get lazy Nate! It's these early years than matter most if you are going to be a champion! 7/7/08, Nantucket, Mantown, 8:00PM Trip: 40 minute ocean swim (family happily playing on the beach, I got out there in the Atlantic just east of Sankaty Head lighthouse; decent sized surf; water was so cold! current was very strong from left to right; went left or up-current for 17min, and then it took just 6min with the current to get back to my starting point; I did a another 17 min with the last 10 min at hard pace).
Chris: 4 mile treadmill with 20 minutes of stretching watching Return of the Jedi on Spike. Glorious! 7/6/08, Nantucket Trip blasts a 9 mile run (with last 5 miles at hard pace of approx 7:30 per mile) 7/4/08, ACAC/Mantown Swam 1000m with Maeve who is on the verge of passing me in the pool and ran 5K on the treadmill. 7/2/08, Sugar Hollow, 6:00AM Trip cranked out a ride to Garth Road early at Nate's request which worked out well as Chris didn't need to be doing a big ride as he tries to get it back in gear after the back injury. Little run to follow and some stretching. Must keep it up now. 6/29/08, New York/Crozet Congratulations to Brian who really was impressive for his first triathlon outing at the 2008 Tinman. Congratulations also to Maeve and Tyce Winter for their solid showing at the 2008 Crozet Youth Triathlon. Maeve improved upon her 2007 time by almost 1 minute and Tyce scored an impressive 3rd place finish among the 7-8 year-old boys in his first year at the event (Tyce was the fastest 7-year old). Results here. 6/22/08, Walnut Creek, 6:00AM Triathlon #10 is in the books and I seem to be in a hunchback position. My back felt really good for the past two days, and this race was just the event to set me back. My unofficial time was 1:35:59, abot 7.5 minutes off of last year's time. Frustrating, but another race completd is a good thing. Perfect weather and warm water (no wetsuits this year). 6/19/08, C'Ville Brain ran 5 in am and 45 minute open water swim. 6/18/08, C'Ville Brian ran 5 in am. Bike: 44 miles (did this with a big group, not a fun experience). 6/17/08, Deltaville Trip biked 1:35 (approx 30 miles); Roads around Deltaville were eerily similar to Eagleman course. First flat tire during training ride! Thank goodness TM had all the parts and tools on board to make the road side tube change. Brian ran 6 miles in the am and a 45 minute open water swim. 6/15/08, Sugar Hollow, 6:00 AM Did a 20 mile out and back and out and back. I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow. Brian nailed a 45 mile ride. 6/13/08, Farmington Trip swam 3000m. 6/12/08, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 Gentle ride and post-Eagleman debrief. 6/5/08, Mantown, 6:30 AM 1 mile in 11:58. Big stretching. The comeback/rehab begins . 6/3/08, Farmington, 5:30 AM This morning Trip did some fantastic transition practice. 4 sets of T1 and T2. Shoes are on the bike, baby (with the rubber bands to keep them level). The running jump is not perfected yet, but he can get on the bike with the shoes inplace. Bike-to-run is blazing fast now. Created a trick to tuck my hat and race belt up under my tri-top when I bend over to put my shoes on... gets them "on" me, gives me two hands to get shoes on, and then enables me to deal with them once I'm running out of the transition area. Looking at the C'Ville weather for Sunday, it's going to be a real test! 6/1/08, Farmington, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM Trip is ready. On his final full training session Trip proved he is ready for Saturday. While Chris slept (an often overlooked yet important part of any training program) Brian and Trip did Farmington to Sugar Hollow and back (30 miles?) and followed it up with a run around Farmington. Trip proved to be strong on the bike, quick on the transition, able to deal well with the humidity and strong on the run. His training partner was impressed. 5/30/08, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM Trip banged out another good run, a 6.4 mile Farmington Fingers run with early-rider Nady in jogger (lots of sightings – deer, bunnies, squirrels, dogs, birds, airplanes, lawnmowers, golf carts, tractors) Later, Chris got in his Free Union Ride going after the elusive 34:23 record. Not this time (36:01), but give it a few weeks! 5/29/08, UVA Grounds, 5:30 Trip and Brian logged in a 80 minute run on a beautiful cool morning. Trip also logged a 2000m swim (good hard 1500 at best time yet of 29:13). 5/27/08, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 30 minute free swim and a Farmington run. Great way to rebound from the holiday. 5/25/08, Nortonsville Loop, 5:30 Well, 5:30 for some. Bode Miller had to be drug out of bed, had to have his tire changed, etc. Not my proudest ride. Amazing loop though! 5/24/08, Farmington, 5:30 AM Trip did a run within the Farmington fingers and a 2000m swim. 5/23/08, Sugar Hollow/Waverly, 5:30 AM A real old school morning with a paced ride to the dam and back with a two-mile run afterward. One of the most spectacular sunrises ever! 5/22/08, OC to Old Ballard, 5:30 AM Trip's pushing hard leading up to Eagleman. A early morning ride with some fingers thrown in. 5/21/08, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM My days of pretending to belong to the club are over now as Trip took back the swipe card in an effort to beef up security. Now I have to drive around. Who on the Board can I complain to? Nice 1 hour+ of gentle running (6.4 miles), wringing the lactic acid out of our calves. Fooled by the weather, but still got a nice run in with a return to concentrated stretching! Check out the map above in the Favorite Rides section. I've included distances from the 'starting line' by the pool for future reference. 5/18/08, Culpeper, VA, 6:15 AM Great morning for Team DCR. Another big 50+ mile ride for Trip and Brian who shaved big time off the ride and felt more comfortable doing it. They also managed to work in a run after the bike. Great work! This topic dovetails nicely into my musings about the Culpeper race. The Little Pepper Sprint was a fantastic race. Although it was huge, it was extremely well run and easy. I woke up at 5am, in my car at 5:15am and was literally pulling into the park at 6:20am, London Calling blaring. Parking was easy and pretty close to registration, transition, etc. I had plenty of time to get stuff organized. I jogged a fair amount, put on my wetsuit, swam, etc. The water was cold. Had I just jumped in to begin the race, it would have been rough because it literally took my breath away at first. THOUGHT #1: Always warm up your swim, especially an open body of water swim. My expectations for the day changed dramatically this week from not thinking I would be able to go on Tuesday to maybe being able to swim and bike to thinking I had a chance of completing it without really hurting myself. In that respect, I had a great race and was able to keep up a run the whole time on a very sore left calf. Success! However, I had significant cramping in my other leg during the bike (something I've never had before) and feel like I've gotten away from the training techniques that brought us good success last year, namely concentrated stretching and really practicing the bike/run transition. The lack of that is what I feel led to my injury in the first place. THOUGHT #2: We must run after we bike every time. As we move closer to our 1/2 irons, this is essential. Our fitness to race is already fine. It is all about avoiding cramps, uncomfortable shoes (which I had because I put on some speed laces the night before the race and had not spent time running and adjusting them before I raced with them...NO CHANGES ON RACE DAY!) This leads to other thoughts I have about longer distance races and entering them to simply complete them versus really trying to excel and improve various aspects of them. I think that somewhere between an international and a 1/2 iron, the time required to train properly becomes impossible to sustain with family, job, sleep, etc. I'm excited about our 1/2 irons and feeling the experience, but I also get excited about putting together many good components of a smaller race and working to improve those as they better match the training we do on a routine basis. The athletes at this race were really good. I swam fairly well in this race, but when you look at how I did perecntage-wise when compared to the field, it's comparable to my C'Ville Sprint performance when I really floundered, swam backstroke, etc. I swam well and still was beaten by over 70% of the field. Geez. By the way, I got beaten up fairly well during the swim, but wasn't really phased by it. I think we should all train by swimming in the same lane! Check out the graph at the bottom of the Race Results page. You can see how I did against the field and compare it to races past. Obviously, I was not at my fastest, but there were also a lot of talented people out there! Even though I've done tons more running and training this past year, I've gotten away from many things that led to success last year in these smaller events. I think this is natural as you look to longer events. I'll be interested to see how this changes race selection in the future. It's almost like subspecializing in medicine! Great race, I'm really happy I was able to do it and not further hurt my leg, and I'm ready for more good reports from the team! Missed sharing the experience with the rest of the team, but there will be lots of events in the future. Well, Trip, you're up! 5/15/08, Old Ballard/Farmington Pool, 5:30 Trip left the Gimp behind and knocked out a ride to Old Ballard and back before meeting up for an 1800m swim. Felt good to be back in the pool although the wetsuit was a tad warm in the pool. How novel it is to not be lapped by Trip. I like having him tire himself out on the bike and not wear neoprene when we swim! 5/13/08, Free Union, Waverly, 5:30 AM Remember when we agreed to run a little after we rode our bikes every time, well I haven't been and the lay-off (laziness) bit me this morning. The temp was in the high 40's when I got off my bike after a hard 16m. 1.5 miles into a brisk Waverly 5K, I felt a sudden cramp-like pain in my left calf. I think I pulled the muscle. What a disappointment since 7 hours earlier I paid my fee for the Little Pepper Sprint. Pass the steroids and Voltaren please. 5/12/08, Mantown, 6:00 AM Slow 5K: 26:07 5/11/08, OC to Nortonsville, 5:30 AM We have a new ironman distance leader. 51.1 miles according to Google. Congrats to Trip and Brian for moving into uncharted distance territory! Can't wait until the whole team can tackle this beast again. This ride has inspired a new section of the website called "Favorite Rides". I'll add the maps of our favorite routes for your viewing pleasure. 5/10/08, Mantown, 7:00 PM Fast 5K: 22:27 5/6/08, Farmington/Mantown, various times The team was split in their training today with Trip churning out some bike drills in the am and Chris on the trainer for 30minutes immediately followed by a treadmill 5K. 5/4/08, Reverse Millington/Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM The band was finally back together for a great early morning ride. Trip's settling into his new ride and Brian is burning it up and no longer scared of El Capitan. 5/3/08, Millington/W.Chapel and Waverly 5K, 5:30AM With Farmer's Market plans scrapped secondary to continued illness, went out for my first sprint biathlon in a while. Bike was great, run not so much...but pain (and strap) free. 4/30/08, Mantown, 7:20 PM Deadliest Catch 5K. 4/27/08, Oak Circle-Millington, 6:00am Trip and Brian did another 32-miler in damp but good conditions. Chris was busy trying to readjust to real life. 4/26/08, Farmington Trip did a 45 min Ednam Forest run in the morning and then a 2500m swim (500 w/u + 2000) in the afternoon. Cue Rocky theme. 4/24/08, Farmington, 5:30 AM Trip kicked it off a few days ago, but this was the first early morning swim and man was that water nice. We swam 2000 and ran a mile afterward. 4/20/08, Honore Road, 8:30PM Doubled up the adventure run for an 8 mile jaunt. Perfect temperature. 2 mile splits 16:42, 17:16, 18:38, 17:03 for a total of 1:09. 4/17/08, Norwegian Sun, 11:00 AM The first annual Norwegian Sun 5K run completley on the promenade deck of the ship. 1 mile = 3.5 laps, so 10.5 laps in 25:14. The headwind was a bitch and it was hard to avoid pedestrians walking off their enormous meals. 4/13/08, Oak Circle-Millington, 6:00am Redemption was sweet and very hard. Brian and Trip did a ride from Oak Circle. Beautiful spring morning. Oak Circle to Millington out/back + Wesley Chapel out/back ... solid 32.1 miles, untimed. Trip felt terrible at the end, and couldn't have run 1 mile at that point. Brian had a few projectiles ... battery pack on Ivy Nursery bridge and then the rear seat water bottle ejection on the Whipporwill downhill! The game is on for the next 6 weeks of training. At the same time, somewhere in the Carribean, a hopelessly un-tan individual pounded out a treadmill 4-miler (31:30) on the Norwegian Sun. 4/10/08, Honore Road, 8:30 AM Dead armadillo on the road...yep, I'm back. 4/7/08, Ridge Road, 5:30 AM Weather delays behind us, we made up for a missed Sunday am workout with a rare Monday run (thanks Ames). Ridge felt great with new shoes, but might have been an aggressive run for breaking them in. Some pain at the end, but considering the terrain and pace, okay. 4/3/08, ACAC Downtown, 5:30 AM Trip powered though another 3000m swim as his pathetic partner slept through his alarm. The punishment might be a late-night run for lazy bones. A+ for Trip. 4/1/08, ACAC Seminole Square, 5:30 AM Back in the water, pounding out yet another 3000m. Trip added an impossible 200m dolphin-kick drill spanning the length of the pool 8 times without breathing. Got to love the Davis mitochondria! 3/30/08, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 Kalibur debut! 3/28/08, Mantown 9:30 PM A truly uninspired 3.25 miles. 3/25/08, Mantown, 10:00 PM Taxes done! I ran a quick 3.25 mile in 24:59! More tonight hopefully! 3/24/08, Bangalore India, 6:00 AM Trip pounded out a jet-lagged 20-minute treadmill and 30-minute bike. No pool at this stop. Awesome! 3/18/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 Scaled back swim (1000m free swim instead of 1500m). Grannies back to killing again! 3/16/08, Ridge Road, 5:30 AM Brian and Trip met at 0530 sharp for a cool and wet Sunday morning Ridge Road run. Brian set the pace, and Trip really felt the 3 week layoff from running. I'm fearful to see what time Trip and Brain will post if Brian gets a headlight. Nice to see a record fall! 3/15/08, JW Marriot, Orlando, 3:30PM
First annual Orlando Sleepman Triathlon. So-so conference, but wonderful particularly for exercising. The have a breathtaking 30m pool where I started with a mile swim (1800m) followed by a 15 mile stationar bike and finally a 6.5 mile run. With TVs on the bike and treadmill, I got to watch Duke lose to Clemson. Great! 3/13/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM No sign of the earlybird swimmer in our lane today. Perhaps she looked through the window and saw the makings of yet another 3000m day and went home in tears. Regardless, despite the fatigue, another big swim. We've already swam about half of last year's total already (about 30 miles). 3/11/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30AM Daylight savings time is a real killer. Despite being a little sleepy, we managed to get in a good 3000m swim. Focusing more on technique and dolphin kicks kept times fast. 3/9/08, Millington, 5:30AM Another sub 30 degree ride. Great outing and beautiful clear sunrise. Brian's back wanting more, unimpressed with the initiation. Guess we'll have to take him out in a thunderstorm or something. 3/6/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM 4000 meters! Big morning. 1500m (25:57) 300m paddles 300m side kick 300m back kick 900m technique drills 300m grannies 400m cool down Total: 4000m (with wetsuit) 3/4/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM Technique was the theme as we worked to incorporate specific form enhancement drills (looking down, pointed toes, straight legs, high elbows) into our swimming. the 1500m and the grannies were much improved. Trip blew everyone out of the water with the dolphin kicks with our fin work. Stellat 3000m day with the weather improving rapidly. 3/2/08, Mantown, 8:30PM Mantown 1/2 Marathon madness! Thought I'd test out the new Charlottesville Running Company running shorts I picked up. Feeling a bit guilty about not riding that morning, I ran a 1:56:20 which puts me below a 4 hour marathon I suppose. I could probably do it in 1:45:00 with some practice. How it functions after the swim and bike will be interesting. 2/28/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30AM More swimming and itching dry skin. The 6 x 50m 1 minute grannies are so painful. We did 500m less today and really focused on form. Really nice to be getting those meters in! Mantown, 8:30PM Quick 5K...mainly because I was cold. 2/26/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30AM Great focused 3000m swim today. The 1-minute grannies are a real killer. 2/24/08, Millington Loop, 5:30AM Cold ride this am, but absolutely necessary as Trip's been a bit grumpy. We welcomed a new rider today, Brian Bartholomew. Not only his maiden trip with us, but his first trip on his new Felt tribike (sweet). He was initiated and passed with flying colors (I was in shorts and in daylight when I first rode it). Hopefully more to come! Here he is above representin' in the South Africa colors after the Delaware Marathon. 2/21/08, Mantown, 8:30 PM Threat of ice prompted a 10 mile treadmill run. 2/20/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:00 PM Snuck a 30-minute swim in. 2/19/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM Thanks to our swimming neighbor for protecting our lane. Chris was pretty lame and strangley fatigued in the water. Cramping a bit, low energy. Perhaps it was a result of poor sleep and skiing the day before, eating biscuits at every meal in Green Bank, or fighting a little bug. Eitherway, rough morning. Trip however was feeling no pain! 2/18/08, Mantown, 9:00 PM Happy President's Day. Not feeling too hot recently, but better now for a quick 4-mile run. 2/14/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30AM Abbreviated 2600m swim. Had to get home to help the kids get their Valentine's Day stuff together. 2/13/08, Mantown, 9:30 PM 4 mile run while my wife was upstairs getting injected with human growth hormone without my knowledge by some shady ex-cop turned personal trainer. Fortunately, he's nice enought to clean up all of the bloody syringes and gauze pads for us. Actually, I'm lying...this never happened. Roger Clemens is lying too. 2/10/08, ACAC and Farmington, various If Sunday had been a primary, candidate Trip would have won in a landslide. Trip got in not only a huge swim but a big run as well. Chris was left with a 750m swim and truckloads of antsyness that the power outage has largely prevented him from discharging. 2/7/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30AM Trip said it and it's true. The first back to back 3000m and man was the team efficient today. I was in the car going home at 6:50AM. My body is totally feeling it. We need to stay injury-free and keep it rolling. Might have to treadmill tonight. 2/5/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 It looks like the 3000m is the new 2200m. We were in the zone today timing wise, and I think we can do better. Even centrifuging my swimsuit could not keep us from the 3-ger mark and in the cars heading home before 7:00AM. Truly a focused, professional effort. 2/4/08, Mantown, 9:00PM Unlike Brady whose season is over, mine is yet to begin. Run on team! 2/3/08, Millington Loop, 5:30 AM Wow...great ride although a little slow. Chalk that up to rust and cold. Our record is about 10 minutes faster. I intend to shatter it when it gets warmer. Wonderful sunrise and good to be back in the saddle. In an effort to avoid a Superbowl letdown, I managed to get in a 1100m swim during Tyce's swim practice. After watching the Pats choke, I was too bummed to finish off the day with the International distance run. 1/31/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM Another swim workout. Interesting to compare the intensity of a swim with and without the Ticketmaster. The truncated rest between the grannies was a real burner. Great swim. 1/30/08. ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM 2700 m swim today. Kinda crowded because of the aqua aerobics class next door. Plus without Trip, I couldn't claim capacity. 1/29/08, Oak Circle/Mantown Trip dragged himself out at 5:30 AM to do a run. Chris, upon seeing the precipitation and temperature returned to his down comforter womb and wimped out. I really wanted to bike, so at 11PM, I pulled the trainer out and did 30 minutes while finishing up season 4 of "24". 1/26/08, Mantown, 8:30PM Painful 10 miles...not so much from the run, but for the fact I was watching women's figure skating. I find it hard to believe that the very best skaters our country has to offer can't make it through their routine without wimping out of their jumps and faling constantly. One announcer said, "Once she gets her jumps down, she'll be a great skater." Isn't that like saying once he's able to actually hit the ball with the bat, he'll be a great batter. 1/24/08, Mantown, 8:30 PM A gentle 5 mile treadmill watching Project Runway on DVR, nice fire in the fireplace, XXX VitaminWater. Let the good times roll. Cold Weekend coming up. 1/22/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM Solo 2500m as the Ticketmaster recovers. Tried out Ames aqua-MP3 player and enjoyed listening to some Depeche Mode underwater. 1/22/08, Mantown, 8:30PM Bad TV and a 6.5 mile gentle run without the IT straps...no pain! 1/20/08, Mantown, 8:30 PM Temperatures are limiting outdoor time so a 9.75 mile run on the treadmill watching the NFC and AFC Playoffs wasn't too bad. 1/18/08, Mantown, 9PM 3 miles watching the some college basketball. 1/15/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 Wow, what a nice difference the tweaking of the line-up made. The team looked much more efficient and the prolonged warm-up made the 1500m swim much smoother. Loved it! Mantown, 6:00 PM Tried to crank out a 6.5-miler under 52, but came up short. Feeling pretty gassed from that swim and the drug-rep calzone I suppose. 1/13/08, Sugar Hollow, Free Union, Finger, 5:30AM I will possibly never recover from this ride. What a nutritional/sleep implosion. Awesome ride though despite the temperature. 1/11/08, Mantown, 9:00 PM 3 1-mile sprints with 2 minutes in between. Got to kick it into a higher gear for these 5Ks. 1/10/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM 2700m and a reminder to take it easy at the onset of a long swim. 1/9/08 Mantown, 11:30 PM I'm going to try to work in some quick 1-3 mile runs into our off days (with some stretching) at higher paces. Last night was a 7:20 mile. 1/8/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM The pool was a bit chilly, but the swim was good. Nice to be on a consistent roll in the water. 1/7/08, Millington/Wesley Chapel, 5:30 AM 1/6/08, Ridge Road, 5:30 AM A fast-paced run down a dark and rainy road. Strangely sore afterward. Nice to push past the 6.5 mile mark. 1/4/08, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM Putting the new digital swim computer to the test with a 2-mile swim. Awesome. My mind is free to think about how much I'm suffering instead of what lap number I'm on. 1/1/08, Millington/Wesley Chapel, 6:45 AM Happy New Year! Another great ride despite freezing rain, powerful winds and being overdressed. A nice warm-up to the New Year's Day 5K! 12/30/07, Mantown, 4PM 6.5 miles with Steelers and Ravens. 12/27/07, Millington/Wesley Chapel, 5:30 AM More fun with the finger. Another excellent ride. The ride already had the vertical, and the finger adds some nice horizontal. Great work-out...strange, but the cold weather work-outs really seem much harder to me. I have a feeling with continued hammering during the winter, when the warm weather returns, we will destroy our best times. The Speedplay pedals past the test immediately. Secure, great power base, and the lateral movement is invaluable. 12/23/07, ACAC/Mantown, 12-4 pm Family swim w/ some laps with Maeve and a 6.5m run during rest. 12/22/07, Millington Loop, 5:30 AM Just beat the drizze. Fantastic ride and the last I'll do with the old pedals. Trip rules! 12/20/07, Millington/Wesley Chapel, 5:30AM Always keeping things new and different, we gave our classic Millington out and back The Finger! Adding the strangley challenging Wesley Chapel Road finger really seemed to make the ride more complete. Frost was everywhere today as Trip debuted his new seat to great reviews. 12/18/07, ACAC Seminole, 5:30AM A surprisingly good 2500m this am. Hopefully all of the chlorine I swallowed is actively sterilizing my respiratory system. 12/16/07, Mantown, 2:30 PM Feelin' funky but managed a 4-mile run under 30 minutes. 5K time of 22:45. 12/14/07, ACAC Pool, 5:30 AM Another power 3000m solo effort from Ticketmaster. 12/11/07, Farmington Punisher, 5:30 AM 6 laps in just under an hour. Brutal, wet, and mind-numbing. I want some more. 12/10/07, Mantown, 9:00PM I really tried to do a fast 5K since I didn't want to do a longer run the night before we rode. I managed 3.1 miles in 24 minutes even. I continue to be extremely skeptical about the 7-year-old girl running that Turkey Trot 5K in 24:35 (That would have been a 3rd place time in the female 20-24 age group!) 12/7/07, ACAC Seminole, 5:30t/6:00c Got to get the evening rhythm worked out. When I get into some race in the future and feel like I can't go on, I'm going to mentally picture that Friday water aerobics class and those emotions alone will drive me to the finish. Big swim Trip. 12/6/07, Mantown, 9PM It's interesting that even after all of this time getting up early to exercise, I still feel like I peak in the early evening. I think Team DCR should sponsor a triathlon that starts at 8PM rather than 8AM. It would be HLA of course. Perhaps the Farmington International Distance Triathlon, Evening Edition. Another good treadmill session watching Project Runway...1/2 of the Patriot distance, 1/4 Ironman. Knees aren't bitching one bit. 12/4/07, ACAC Downtown, 5:30 AM Ring the bell...it's time to get down with the 70.3. The sign next to the pool said 36 lap = 1 mile, so I did 48 (1.33 miles) today after a quick warm up. Time: 44:04. Out of the pool onto the treadmill for a quarter of the distance (3.25 miles) in 27:16. 12/2/07, Sugar Hollow-Free Union, 5:30 AM Super cold, but super great ride. That will be the last time I ride without the Black Knight jacket. I really don't like to share my equipment, even with family members! Tough luck raccoon...big props to the driver who never hesitated staying in his lane! 12/1/07, Mantown, 9:00 AM In honor of the Men's 4 Miler, I did the same san-ITB straps. Some soreness that day on the right, but otherwise okay. 11/27/00, ACAC Seminole, 5:30 AM 2700m of swimming fun. Nobody messes with us there anymore because we are bad. 11/25/07, Mantown, 9:00 PM Treadmill 6 miles watching Amazing Race and the Patriots squeak one out. 11/22/07, Ednam, 8:00 AM Happy Thanksgiving...it's the Boar's Head Turkey Trot! The team was present in full force with Trip coming in 22nd out of well over a thousand runners and missing first in his age group by just a few seconds. Congrats to Maeve of the Developmental Team who ran a personal best of 35:38 erasing 7 minutes from her time last year and earning her another top 10 finish in her strangely competitive age group! 11/18/07, Sugar Hollow/Millington, 5:30 AM Mixing things up on a cold (?) morning with a Sugar Hollow ride followed by a Millington chaser. I found it a bit hard especitally making that turn knowing that four big hills were coming in rapid succession. Great ride. 11/16/07, ACAC Pool, 5:30 AM Trip knocked out a 3000m swim. Amazing what can happen without the chit chat and judging by Sean Singletary's play, there will be much to talk about. 11/13/07, ACAC Pool, 5:28 AM Big swim today. 2800m in the cooler lap pool with no outside distractions. Feeling better already. Absolutely must keep the rhythm. It was hard missing out on a bike on a morning like today though (60 degrees practically). 11/11/07, Millington Loop, 5:30 AM 48-0. On the heels of the final game of the storied Orange Bowl, we decided to do the Millington Loop in reverse as the UVA v. Miami game had the reverse ending that UVA games in Florida typically have. Hard ride. 11/6/07, Mantown, 9:00 PM Everest: Beyond the Limit was cued up during tonight's 8 mile run. While I have no interest in putting myself in that kind of peril, I have to wonder what DCR could handle in that environment... 11/4/07, Millington, 4:30 5:30 AM Ahh, daylight savings time, has it really been a year since Trip showed up early for the Chalk Mountain run (that reminds me, we need to tackle that 'hill' again). Because of the time change, we audibled and changed the big reverse Millington to a brief but intense Free Union ride. Nice to see the sun a little, but it didn't help our time. I'm convinced that the cold changes our physiology for the worse. Basically, I now think of our off season training like training at altitude. When the weather warms up, we'll be animals! 11/1/07, Ridge Road, 5:30 AM Time to run off the Peppermint Patties and Take 5 bars I stole from my kids. A nice early morning (i.e. pitch black) 8 mile run down the friendly Ridge road was perfect. Cold morning, but not too bad felt great. That final 13 mile run finish on the half iron coming up will be a piece of cake. 10/30/07, Millington, 5:30 AM C-c-c-c-cold ride this morning. Bam, just like that were pedaling in the 20's (29 degrees). I'm not sure if it's just me, but as cold as it was, I didn't feel as cold as some of the rides last year. I think I'm getting tougher. Got to find thicker Eskimo-grade gloves though. 10/28/07. Mantown, 9:00 PM 5 miles of watching Boston hand it to Colorado. This on the heals of New England hand it to Washington and Boston College hand it to Va Tech. Way to go Beantown. 10/28/07, Farmington Grounds, 6:00 AM Trip closes out the Polar Bear Club for the second year in a row. Thanks to N.C. State and a Farmer's Market morning, Chris was to tired/pissed/weak to attend the ceremony and that makes me even more upset about the football game. 10/25/07, ACAC Seminole Square, 5:30 AM The rains blocked what would have been an ideal temperature ride this am, but a nice (warm) swim followed by a brisk 2 mile treadmill felt very nice. Swimming was a bit rusty (when was the last time we swam...is Polar Bear Club still in effect?) Everyone's hoping this is the beginning of the team getting back on track for the winter. It's here that the race is won, not on game day. Check out the boss new weather report...fully automated! 10/23/07, Mantown, 9:00 PM Forging ahead with a mildy uncomfortable (right knee) 10K while watching California burn. 10/21/07, Millington Loop, 5:30 AM First numb feet of the season as the ride was somewhere in the low to mid 40's. Great time and Trip, despite an exhausting trip to the ATL and perhaps fighting an illness, still unleashed his post-El Capitan assault on the last few mile of Garth. Clearly this record will fall when it warms up and theres a bit more sunlight. Great ride...I relt like we were strong throughout. 10/17/07, Mantown, 8:30PM 3.2 miles and forgettable TV. 10/15/07, Mantown, 8:30 PM 4 miles with Monday Night Football picture-in-picture with Dancing With The Stars. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRIP! 10/12/07, Millington, 5:30 AM Feelin' the fifties this morning and a warm welcom back to some of the cold weather clothing that has been in hiding. What we felt like was a fairly quick time out and back tunred out to not be so quick. That's what happens when there is never a bit of sunlight on the trip I guess. Trip thinks darkness adds a minute to the ride. We'll see how close to 34:10 we can get this winter. It's good to be running arfter riding. 10/10/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM The comforting sight of mist rising from the glowing Farmington pool this morning was nowhere to be seen this morning as the temperature was in the mid 60's. The swimming was brisk and felt good and was followed by more running, a theme for the team this off season. 10/8/07, Ridge Road, 5:30 AM Everyone was on time for a full Ridge run in the dark. Everyone felt strong, even those who had to lug 3 lb. flashlights the entire trip! 10/7/07, Farmington to Free Union, 5:45 AM Chris gets initiated on Trip's fiendish creation. Fantastic (dark) morning, but because of Chris' battery gaffe, we got to see the birth of an amazing morning. One of the best Sunday rides. 10/4/07, Mantown, 9:00 PM Top Chef finale and a sub-30m 5K. 10/2/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM The Farmington Pool crew had the pool stoked today! As the steam rose from the water in the pool's early light, the team threw down a spirited 1000m swim and stroke drills. I feel our swims bending back into shape. I updated the rankings above. 10/1/07, Mantown, 9:00 PM Amazing how a little Dancing With The Stars and picture-in-picture Monday Night Football makes a 4-mile jog fly by. 9/28/07, Sugar Hollow, 5:25 AM It may not be possible to set records in the dark, but Trip took a fine shot at it. Hard and swift ride out of the Hollow followed by Trip finding that special gear at the end that left me straing to see his flashing red light. Plenty of time for a run and stretching as we sent our thoughts and prayers out to the Vick and Hall families. It's not your fault, it's ours as a society guys...chin up fellas! 9/27/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM Heater's on! Short but concentrated swim (reduced chit chat) followed by a diesel-scented run as the sun made its way up. Plenty of time for stretching and weekend planning. Ideal morning. 9/25/07, Sugar Hollow, 5:45 AM More alarm failures. The extra sleep propelled the team to its second fastest Sugar Hollow Tour on record (still a bit slower than 44:12). Beautiful ride that felt great! 9/20/07, Mantown, 7:00 PM Treadmill, 4 miles, DVR Curious George, 29 min. 9/18/07, Farmington Pool, 5:30 AM Back-to-back workouts in the low 40's. Shrugging off the wetsuits despite very cold water, the team eclipsed the 3000m barrier. Pretty soon, that will be the warm-up! 9/17/07, Millington, 5:30 AM 44 degrees and clear as a bell. Everyone seems to have revamped their bike lights so safety-wise DCR looks great. I thought were were hustling, but the time told a different story. Extra weight of clothing and lights I guess. Nice 2 mile run afterward. Check out the new temperature/apparel guide page. Suggestions welcome. 9/16/07, Mantown, 3:00 PM A 4-miler on the treadmill. Ashamed to be inside on such a great day, but the NFL was on and the treadmill is nicer on the IT Bands. 9/13/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM 2150 m swim. Working on technique and beefing up distance again. 9/12/07, Walnut Creek, 6:00 PM Little Big training resulted in a 3.2 mile trail run as I either followed Maeve on her mountain bike insanity or ran with her on her 1.5 mile trail run. 9/9/07, Millington Loop/Sugar Hollow 5:30 AM Treadmill Run, 3:00 PM Yeah, you read it correctly. 37.3 miles of beauty this morning. Panama City Iron Man is calling. It's time to move up team. While it didn't top Trip's distance mark, it's still 1/3 of the 112 mile ride which is pretty good for a Sunday morning. 9/6/07, Mantown, 6:00 AM Started season 4 of '24' with a 3 mile treadmill run. It's time to get the running numbers up. Good stretching. Not as pretty as Little Sue, but that treadmill always treats the IT bands right. 9/3/07, Little Sue Out & Back, 6:00 AM A beautiful return to one of the first runs we did as a team. Along for the ride was Nate Davis, the youngest member of the developmental squad. If his demeanor during the run is any indication of his feelings towards running, he'll destroy his old man sometime in his early teens. 9/2/07, Chesapeke Bay, 6:00 AM Wow. Perfect morning for a 1 mile open water swim over to the osprey nest and back. Amazing. 8/30/07, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM ACAC Downtown, 1:00PM Looking for a little burn, the team worked in a 2-for-1 today with an am HLA 21.1 mile bike to Sugar Hollow, repeating several miles and following it up several hours later with a staggered swim at ACAC (after well over a year, Trip is finally late for something which make my lazy a-- feel wonderful). We overlapped for the grannies which were tough. 20hrs/week, here we come! 8/28/07, Millington, 5:30 AM Despite alarm failure, a dark morning and obscured eclipse welcomed a nice ride to Free Union and back. It's no longer light out in the morning and sadly it's time for HLA rides to begin. Next purchase will be some mega headlights for our rigs. Got the training tires back on since the next race may be a while. 8/23/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM Could this be the beginning of some consistent exercise sessions? I think the vacations are over and it's time to get lean and mean. Hevay swim today (1800m) and the heaterless pool today is clogged by my surpirsing rust. Ample stretching made the morning fantastic. 8/19/07, Garth Road, 9:00 PM 5K Treadmill run. Yawn. 8/14/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM Sporadic workouts continue (4 August workouts so far...didn't we do 4 days in a row some time back?) Regardless, intensity levels and enthusiasm remain high as the mornings are darker and the air cooler (Old Ballard is a meat-locker in some places). A strong swim and a longer bike to Whipporwill with good stretching sends Trip off to hopefully nautical victory. If there is a point in the races where Trip has to jump out of the boat, swim to land and run to some timeless lighthouse to ring a victory bell, his crew will win by a mile. 8/8/07, Honore Road, Sarasota, 9:30PM Hot and humid! It was 80 degrees and exceptionally muggy. Despite a solid first 2 miles at 14:30, there would be no negative split as the conditions sapped energy and drive. 8/4/07, Honore Road, Sarasota, 9:00PM No armadillos, snakes or gator sounds. Good thing since half the road lights were out. No PR, but I'm just getting warmed up and used to the heat. 8/2/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM Another beautiful day at Farmington, fantastic sunrise and an intense, form-focused swim leading to a tough little Old Ballard ride. While Trip seems to have the second half of that ride figured out, Chris is still cramming. 7/31/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AMBack to basics with swimming form and technique. A nice post-race run was comfortable and the surroundings beautiful on a slightly foggy day. 7/29/07, Walnut Creek, 6:00 AM Race Day! 7/26/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM After reading an open water swim simulation article, the swim this morning consisted of 1500m of down one lane of the ACAC lap pool, under the rope siting simulation, and down the other lane. The drill was excellent for working on acceleration after a slow turn without kicking off from the wall. A new swim (open water simulation or OWS) is born 7/24/07, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM No post-race slump. There's work to be done. A shatttered Sugar Hollow record, solid run and good stretching (+ Neil). Great morning. 7/22/07, Richmond, 5:00AM RACEDAY! 7/18/07, ACAC Downtown, 12:30PM Welcome to a new day gentlemen. The dawning of the lunchtime workout. 1800m of midday fun. A nice option for restless legs! 7/17/07, El Capitan, 5:30 AM A new route is born and a beast is tamed yet again. Great morning despite some IT band mischief. Nothing some Motrin and a black strap won't cure. Lots of stretching on tap for today! 7/15/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM Taking full advantage of the empty pool, the team was able to simulate the 3-Sports 300m swim moving right-left. Very helpful. 3x300m with times between 5:20-5:50. This was followed by a blistering ride from Farmington to Garth Road by way of Old Ballard and Whipporwill. Feeling primed for 3-Sports. 7/12/07, Millington, 5:30 AM Wow. The Reunion Tour was kicked off with a bang as once again, a PR falls. Trip and Chris smashed the Free Union Out & Back record once again. A quck footwear change and a 2m run all well under an hour! Feeling strong! 7/10/07, Millington Loop, 5:30 AM Again, the record falls on a cool morning. 1:25:39. There's lot's more time reduction to be found on that ride when the team reunites! 7/9/07, ACAC Downtown, 1:00 PM 1500m swim, untimed. Wow, it's hot outside! 7/6/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM 1500m swim in 26:16 (with wetsuit). Still working on figuring out how to make my race day open water swims better. At this point, I think it's the visibility/sighting that may be the issue. With the wetsuit shaving 4.5 minutes off of the swim time, it's clearly worth the extra 10-20 seconds in transition. 5K treadmill in 22:10. Weights and stretching. Time for Ticketmaster to come home! 7/4/07, Garth Road, 4:30 PM Treadmill 5K: 22:01. Feeling good, no leg strap since the C'Ville Sprint! 7/3/07, Downtown ACAC, 1:00PM 1500m swim with flip turns and alternate breathing in an effort to correct the woes of the C'Ville Sprint swim. 30:51. 7/2/07, Garth Road, 5:30 AM -Treadmill 5K: 23:38 -Crump Osprey Nest Out/Back, 0600 Open water swim: 1500-1750m?, 34:21 Gorgeous sunrise, flat water. Pretty sluggish for first 10 minutes. Felt strong after the turnaround at halfway. -Little Sue Loop+ Run 6.5 mi (approx, need to measure), 47:09 Felt heavy for first .75 mi. Good pace. Very strong last mile (6:29). 7/1/07, Fishing Bay/Stingray Point Out/Back 20.7 mile bike ride in 1:14:10. Good, long, flat ride. Focus on position and pace. 6/26/07, Millington, 5:30AM
Happy Anniversary! Not quite, but close enough. It seems like only yesterday that we set out on a running shoe and gel cushion morning bike ride following a rainy C'Ville triathlon. The fantastic year of training was celebrated by a chatty Millington ride and a 2m run with a friendly word with Neil and some stretching. Here's to a successful and fun year and a great friendship. 6/19/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM Final hard brick before the race. Really pushed it in the pool for 500m (8:39:50) and followed it by a hilly stationary bike for 25 minutes and a 5K treadmill run in 22:22. Crushed my 500 swim and 5K treadmill PRs and didn't feel that spent. It's go time team. 6/17/07, Old Ballard/Millington, 5:30 AM/2:30 PM A split ride this morning as Trip kicked his Father's Day off with a monster ride combining Old Ballard and Millington (1:37) while Chris was sleeping in until 9:40 and followed that with a "huge junky breakfast"...two parts of his Father's Day present. Afternoon riding in the summer is for the birds. The heat was distracting, but the visibility superior. The trip computer failed on my ride, so the time of 34:47 was unofficial, but I think sub 35 is coming soon. 6/14/07, Walnut Creek, 5:30 AM Trip rode solo in the rain. Dedication people. That's why he's the beast he is. 6/12/07, Embassy Suites Minneapolis, 11:00 PM Another 5K, easy pace. I'm anticipating a difficult travel day tomorrow. 6/11/07, Embassy Suites Minneapolis, 11:00 PM Nice Precor treadmill 5K followed by 30 minutes of hard eliptical (simulated hill climbing) and free weights. All this while watching Jean Claude Van Damme's Kickboxer. I'll carry these images during Sunday's race. 6/7/05, Millington, 5:30 AM A boy who lived on a farm decided on the day a calf was born that he would pick it up over his head everyday and by doing this, one day he would be able to pick a full grown cow over his head. I feel like our biking is headed in this direction; every day, we are a little faster than the day before. Great ride and really nice run considering the bike intensity. That was our fastest Waverly 5K after biking. 6/5/07, ACAC, 530AM Solo brick this am as the team is suddenly hell-bent on laying waste to the C-Ville Triathlon as a way of celebrating their anniversary. 500m swim (9:42), 35 minutes of stationary biking dubbed the Wintergreen Mountain experience as it was a stand-up grind it out trial followed by a 5K in 23:18. Adding in the 53 minute bike course from Sunday gives a total of about 1:26:00. With 2.5 minutes of transition yields a 1:28:30 time. Last year, my time was 1:45:21, so that's 17 minutes under. This is good and there is more improvement to come. 6/3/07, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM Nearing the C'Ville Sprint Triathlon, the team finally made it out to Sugar Hollow. The assault on the sprint course record may have been dampened by the rain, but it was nonetheless very successful. DCR improved upon Chris' previous mark by over 6 minutes. This was followed by a brief run before drying off and consuming organic bars brought by Trip that have completely changed my intestinal flora. 5/31/07, Waverly, 5:30 AM With the C'Ville Intrnational Triathlon and Lurray looming, the team hit the road and broke the no morning running rule without bike/swim first. 4.4 miles later, the knees were happy. We'll keep pressing up the miles. 5/29/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM 1500m swim and a 4 mile run. Need to start ramping up the milage if Lurray is a possibility. Everything felt good in the empty pool. 5/26/07, Walnut Creek, 6:00 AM Back to the C'Ville sprint bike course for the first time since the rainy race last year. Despite moving at a gentle pace, we still clocked a 1:00 time. Considering that this is only 45 seconds slower than my race time from last year, I think when we get Trip out there for the first time, we'll blaze it. Beware of the dogs; they were everywhere. 5/24/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM The first Farmington triathlon was a bit more of a handful than expected. A beautiful morning for a 1000m swim, 8 mile bike up Ivy and Old Ballard, and an abbreviated but hilly 2m run. Interesting how the rest of the events flow after a longer swim. A great start and a good course that we can tweak over time. I think we are but steps away from the first DCR Farmington Invitational. 5/22/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM Straight 1500m followed by a gentle 1m treadmill and copious stretching as the IT bands were barking after the Millington explosion. I didn't want to break the back to back run rule, but I also want to keep pushing our milage up (Lurray is a 10 mile run!) 5/21/07, Millington Road, 5:30 AM Fantastic Monday! The team came to work once again and despite Trip's mega Ironman open water swim at Fishing Bay, he showed no signs of fatigue as again a biking record falls hard (by nearly 1 minute) and a quick 5K (by Chris' standards) is turned in. The exercise period stays the same, but the density grows daily. 5/17/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 An aggressive 2000m workout (quickly becoming the standard) with time for only a quick Oak Circle mile (6:20 by Trip/6:45 Chris). Billy Idol said it best in Rebel Yell, "More, more more!" 5/15/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM A 1500m swim and a 5K. Solid. 5/14/07, Sugar Hollow, 5:30 AM Another day, another record (yawn). Even with El Capitan sapping a bit from our final kick, the Sugar Hollow time creeps ever closer to 46:00. Great work. I think Trip's bike is finally 'adjusted'. 5/10/07, Old Ballard, 5:30 AM The team has clearly reached a new level of performance. Shattering not only the Old Ballard record, but crushing the Waverly 2m time as well. Flats are faster and finishes keep getting stronger. As the weather improves and visibility gets clearer, there's no end in sight. Now is the time to push ourselves and ride this wave right into Walnut Creek. Geez, it's really nice to see this progress. You should be stretching your Achilles as you read this! 5/8/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM 4300 nautical meters and 18 terrestrial miles later, the three-fer comes to an end. I have never felt overtrained before (in fact I feel great today), but I can see how this could happen when you train with the insane. I'm pleased that we came within 300m of our lofty goal this morning and that we stretched after every session. I think we need to buy a little bell and have it with us during every workout. The Navy S.E.A.L.S have a bell that you can ring if you want to quit. That would be a fun tradition. There is no bell ringing on team DCR. 5/7/07, Millington Out/Back, 5:30 AM Switching up the schedule a bit with a Monday morning work-out. Intensity remains high. It was nice to be back on the bike/run routine and even nicer to see sunlight at the onset of our ride. The Millington Out and Back got hammered today with a gentle 5K afterward. Time to start increasing the run miles. 5/6/07, Farmington Pool, 6:00 AM 2400 swim with a timed 1000 in wetsuits. Any questions as to whether they help with your times were put to rest as the swim was blazed in about 18 minutes. How can we cool this pool off? 5/2/07, Famington Grounds, 5:30 AM Nice turnout today and excellent effort. I'm please that so many people have smiles on their faces despite the obvious escalation in training intensity. Adding the longer distance stamina swims at the beginning of the workout will be the key to the international distances and beyond. Everyone is very focused on technique which is really paying off. Nice run...everybody should be stretching frequently at home as we are absolutely going to stay injury-free! 5/1/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM 1500 continuous swim with 2 mile treadmill workout. Looked like only half of the team made it this am. Let's do better next time everybody! 4/29/07, Millington Loop, 5:30 6:00 Despite (or because of) a little snooze on Chris' part, a long overdue return to Millington was a smashing success as once again Trip set a blazing record for the route. His finish was inspiring as the ripped through El Capitan and never looked back as Chris experienced a complete energy failure (CEF) and hobbled home. It was the extra weight on the bike. 4/27/07, ACAC, 5:30 AM Dense workout today. A hard 1100m in the pool followed up by a 3-mile grinder on the treadmill and obligate stretching. It's nice to see that intensity continue to rise both outside on the bikes and indoors as well. 4/24/07, Farmington Grounds, 5:30AM 1300m preflight swim, perfect weather, perfect water. 4/20/07 Garth Road, 5:30 AMOn a loaner wheel with a slow start, the Sugar Hollow record falls hard. Too tired to type more...must eat Mojo bar...nay several... 4/19/07 Farmington Grounds, 5:30 AM A beautiful morning for the first of hopefully many Farmingthon bricks. 750m swim followed by hill drills and a quick 1 mile Oak Circle run. Ample stretching and Angels debriefing. 4/17/07 ACAC Seminole Square, 5:30 AM 1700m of swimming on the heels of Angels. Working on some longer swims and "golf scores" in the upper (Chris) to lower (Trip) 70's. While Trip preferred to walk the course, Chris opted for a cart. 4/7/07 Honore Rd., Sarasota Florida, 3:30PM Cooler day, same run with 2 dead armadillos this time. 29:19 was certainly my fastest 4 miler to date. The flatness of this area certainly helped. 4/5/07 Honore Rd., Sarasota Florida, 9:00 PM Chris has traveled with his family to Sarasota to visit family. Beautiful weather and flat terrain sum up for perfect exercise conditions. To date, I have spotted snakes, armadillos, opossums, and heard alligators on the runs around here. 4/3/07 ACAC Seminole Square, 5:30 AM Travel plans caused up to spend a beautiful spring morning indoors instead of out on our bikes. A abbreviated but vigorous 1200 m swim was followed by a 2m treadmill run (sub 15:00) and comprehensive stretching. 3/30/07 ACAC Seminole Square, 5:30 AM The weather forced us into the gym, but everyone seemed to make the most of it. The swimming was particularly vigorous today with a hard 300 warm-up followed by a leg-numbing 400 kick. Stroke form was the focus for a 500 buoy swim. The 50 and 100 m grannies were within the range (400m). A brisk 2-mile tempo run on the treadmill (pace was 7:00-7:15 miles) was followed by good stretching. 3/27/07 Millington Ride/Waverly 5K, 5:30 AM Another beautiful (balmy) morning and another wicked work-out. Trip's Farmington Fingers run this weekend was no match for the jijitsu juice as Trip powered out a record Millington out&back. Straggling a little bit, I clocked him at 37:06, but given our fumbling start and the fact that it looked to me like he slowed down at the finish, he gets at least a tie! Nice run to follow. 3/23/07 Farmington Work-out, 5:30 AM As race season approaches, foundation work-outs are transitioning to speed and recovery drills, and Trip did an excellent job of guiding us through a series of Lake Drive hill drills on our bikes (range 3:41-3:53 with Trip turning in a real burner to finish the set of 5). As we limped back for the beginning of some run drills, Trip surprised everyone with an intense Sunset Circle/Brook Hill charge that made me tearfully question why I wasn't home asleep. A brisk 2 mile run with some elevation changes followed with everyone's IT bands surviving the test. Great work everybody.
